When I first met Nicki Sauls, trunk keeper at Matilda Jane Clothing, I was beyond frustrated. I was waiting in line to see the Easter bunny last year with my impatient toddler at Clarksville Elite Gymnastics, and the line was never-ending.
Luckily, I spotted Nicki's MJC booth, and my 2-year-old daughter stopped whining immediately and ran over to look at the beautiful clothes and stuffed animals she had to offer. Fortunately, our new huggable cloth bunny got us through that line to the see the big bunny.
Little did I know, we'd stay in touch after our family's move to Texas and Nicki would introduce me to the world of Matilda Jane Clothing - a haven for wholesome, yet adorable and affordable clothing company providing clothing, accessories, travel gear, bedroom decor and more for women and their children (girls and boys).
MJC was founded by Denise Demarchis to, "keep little girls little and youthful, keep them spinning, twirling and carefree. And most importantly, bringing them happiness." I translate that to, let's keep our little girls dressing age-appropriate while looking fashion conscious and confident.
While MJC was originally started with girls in mind, the company has a wonderful collection for boys, as well as women. I let Nicki know I was looking for coordinating fall outfits for me and my daughter, and she came back with two pieces from the autumn collection: a Just the Jaunt dress from the new Farmer's Market line and the Women's Maxi Dress in black.
Addie absolutely loved her colorful, whimsical dress from the moment she put it on...and would not take it off for three days straight (I did wash it mid-second day 🙃). The gorgeous harvest colors were just what we needed to convince her to take off her costume princess dresses and switch back into some normal clothing! MJC does only even sizes, so we went with a 4T since she usually wears a 3T. It fit well with enough room for her to sprout, so I'd recommending going one size up if there's a concern.
As for my outfit, I enjoy a classic maxi because there are so many ways to wear it - it's really an all-season dress when paired with the correct accessories. MJC pays close attention to detail; just as my daughter's dress was adorned with ruffles and buttons, my dress had sweet touches of its own, such as buttons on the cap sleeves and pockets in the dress large enough to hold my cell phone (mom win!). The material on both dresses was soft enough to sleep in, but too pretty not to showcase for brunch at Alamo Biscuit Co. 😁🍳. The maxi accentuates my curves while making me feel slender all at the same time.
Since I'm petite at 5'2", I like to wear these long dresses with heels, but was successfully able to wear a pair of Tory Burch Miller metallic sandals without any material dragging on the ground at the pumpkin patch (short girl win!). To add a bit of edge to the classic style, on a different occasion I paired the maxi with some Dolce Vita leopard booties and a statement necklace.
If you like the dresses in the women's line, also check out 1.) the new MJC denim collection with several shades of blue and black jeans; and 2.) the Noonday collection that provides full-service styling. Nicki is super helpful and will provide recommendations for your personalized fit!
Not everyone is a salesperson. But, I think everyone can appreciate saving money and bonding in-person or digitally over amazing clothes for you and your littles! If you are interested in hosting an MJC party through Nicki, there are loads of discounts and perks without strings attached. Typical shows have up to 10 participants, and Nicki describes the experience as going to a department store dressing room with your girlfriends (only digital if you want!), and supporting each other to feel their best while sipping cocktails and enjoying treats.🙋♀️🍰🥂
"I'm constantly finding images of REAL women and girls of all the shapes that we are," said Nicki. "My goal is for everyone to feel safe and enjoy shopping while encouraging others!"
